Fall River’s new Director of Community Maintenance, Adriano Ponceano, will begin his job today, July 18 at a salary of $80 thousand dollars a year. Ponceano comes to Fall River from the Pawtucket, RI Department of Public Works. He has seventeen years of experience in public works and municipal government.
During his tenure, Ponceano has gained direct experience with streets & highways, parks, sanitation, engineering, cemeteries and traffic departments. He is also skilled in union negotiations and collective bargaining process. Ponceano is knowledgeable in developing a variety of departmental budgets as well as monitoring capital and maintenance expenditures within those budgets. He is also familiar with managing procurement’s inventory control and purchasing processes.
Mayor Jasiel Correia stated, “We need a DCM director with experience in these areas. With our renewed focus on street and sidewalk repair, pothole repair and generally cleaning up our city, the knowledge that Adriano Ponceano brings to the table will be put to use right away.”
Ponceano holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston College, and has also completed coursework in the fields of structural and civil engineering. He is currently enrolled in a graduate program, pursuant to a master’s in business administration. In addition to being fluent in Portuguese, he had a long history of volunteerism and working with community groups.
