A week after Mayor Jasiel Correia announced his plans to privatize trash collection in the city, he released the Memorandum of Understanding between the city and the anticipated 10 year contract with EZ Disposal. The MOU was released today, Tuesday, April 19th.

The document is only two pages long, including room for signatures. In part, here is some key content within the MOU that is expected to be executed no later than May 1st, 2016.

  • EZ Disposal will take over all municipal accounts and responsibilities for trash recyclables, yard waste, and bulky items
  • Collections will be done five workdays per week, with holiday weeks extending the collection by one day to include Saturdays
  • Bulky items will be picked up curbside provided they have a paid, bulky item ticket on them
  • EZ Disposal agrees to interview current sanitation employees for possible employment
  • EZ Disposal will purchase current sanitation equipment for $1.1 million

The document also acknowledged that EZ Disposal will take no actions that would interfere with existing contracts with Casella recycling, Republic Allied Services, and WasteZero.
