Mosquito Season Comes to an End

Mosquito season comes to an end this week, at least for the Bristol County Mosquito Control Project.

Superintendent Ms. Priscilla Matton tells frcconnect.org that the trucks used to spray city, commercial and residential areas end this week.

“It’s not that mosquitoes are no longer a problem,” she says, “It’s just that we no longer spray because the risk of contracting mosquito borne diseases drops in the fall.”

Ms. Matton still advises residents to stay indoors at dusk, or if you do go out to wear long sleeved shirts and pants and, if you want, insect repellent as an extra precaution against bites.

In August the city called in the BCMC to spray the St. Patrick’s Cemetery area because testing showed mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus were found in that area. As an extra precaution, Kennedy Park was also sprayed during the Feast of the Holy Ghost as well.
