The next public hearing on the Fall River/Middleboro possibility is scheduled for next Wednesday, September 14th. The session will be held at the Elsbree Street Campus of Bristol Community College. The hearings start at 6:00 p.m. and are open to the public.

Vice President of the Fall River Office of Economic Development Ken Fiola gave a presentation to his Board of Directors today to explain the benefit of a Middelboro/Fall River interim rail connection. Fiola explains to FRC Media News that state monies are available to help pay for the multi-million dollar upgrade to the tracks already in place. There’s also about 34 miles of track between here and Middleboro that would need to be upgraded.

The other possibility in the eyes of MassDot, is a Middleboro/Stoughton connection, although Fiola says that is less of a possibility, partly because of environmental issues.
