The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has begun testing trains for SouthCoast Rail on the Fall River secondary line.
Project coordinator Jean Fox says the famous purple MBTA trains began traversing the tracks near Fall River last week.
Ms. Fox says from now through when passenger service begins next May, trains traveling upwards of 79 mph will be on the tracks…and residents need to pay attention.
As testing occurs along all SouthCoast Rail lines, work continues finalizing a passenger schedule to Boston. Ms. Fox says that the schedule is likely to be revealed by early next year.
Ms. Fox says since the Fall River line merges in Middleboro on its way to Boston, and weekend service is available in Middleboro, it is likely SouthCoast Rail will offer trips on Saturdays and Sundays.
