Fall River Resident Richard Branco has obtained nomination papers to run for mayor in the March 12th recall election. The latest list released by the Board of Elections Office today brings the number of candidates up to eleven (11), although FRC Media News learned yesterday that former City Councilor Dan Rego, who took out papers last week, has since changed his mind and will not run citing personal reasons.
Back in the fall of 2015, Branco ran for city council but did not win a seat. At that time, Branco vowed to eliminate the pay-as-you-throw program and said he would encourage the establishment of sports venues within the city, in part, to create jobs and increase tourism.
Today is the final day for candidates to obtain nomination papers for the recall election. The deadline to return completed papers is next Tuesday, January 22nd.
