Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia announced at the site of the new BMC Durfee High School construction project Monday that he is temporarily stepping down from office. This announcement comes after he was indicted on 24 federal charges against him including wire fraud, bribery, and extortion. Correia said that starting today, City Council President Cliff Ponte will serve as acting mayor. He added he will forever be grateful for the residents who have supported him, particularly through this last year of legal problems.
He ended his speech with …”I will continue to fight every day to improve the lives of every resident of Fall River and I fully expect to lead this great city on the rise once again as its mayor in the future.”
