Now that Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia has been re-elected to office as a result of the recall election, he will now need to be officially sworn in as the city’s mayor. According to the Board of Elections Office, the final vote tally must be certified within ten days from the March 12th special election date to ensure Correia secured the majority of votes. After the results are finalized, there is a ten day waiting period, during which a recount from one of Correia’s opponents can be requested. School Committeeman and mayor hopeful Paul Coogan was the second runner up, losing to Correia by less than 300 votes, although Coogan contends he will not legally challenge the numbers, or ask for a recount.
It is still too early to know if, and when, Mayor Correia will be sworn into office. Frcmedianews.org will keep you updated as soon as the information becomes available. Stay tuned.
