The Bay State’s total unemployment rate dropped to 2.9 percent in November, which is the fifth consecutive month decline rate. Last time the number was exactly this low was in January of 2001.
Back in October of this year, the unemployment rate was 3.3 percent. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the state added 5,800 jobs in the following areas: Financial services; scientific; Professional and business services; construction; job growth and education; health services, and local government sectors.
Year to date: over 67 thousand jobs have been added in Massachusetts. Since the unemployment rate peaked in September of 2009, there are now over 332 thousand more resident employed and about 198 thousand fewer residents unemployed as the labor force increased by 134,100.
While these figures have not yet been reported through the state, Fall River added almost 1,000 jobs this fall with the opening of Amazon in the city’s industrial park this fall.
