A coupon floating around facebook that offers a $200 discount coupon for Market Basket shoppers is a Hoax.
Reportedly, the coupon on social media is supposedly being offered as a “Birthday Celebration” for the chain, but Director of Advertising For DeMoulas Market Basket Jay Rainville says, the stores at their Tewksbury-based headquarters have been fielding calls all day about the coupon.
“All that I can tell you is that it has nothing to do with us. That is all I know,” said Rainville, who said the store only uses traditional paper circulars and promotions to help sell their products. There is no official Market Basket website.
The chain itself has 75 stores, including locations in Raynham and New Bedford. The company also recently announced plans to open a site in Fall River at the old Harbor Mall complex, and the city is currently ironing out Tiff arrangments with Market Basket officials now
The coupon has generated much discussion among Facebook users, with some expressing happiness while others expressing fear of trolling or a virus. The bottom line, according to Rainville, is that shoppers who try to use the coupon will do so without any luck.
