It looks like a major sidewalk repair project slated to begin early this spring in Fall River needs to be scaled back a bit because of financial reasons.
The $300 thousand dollar renovation project is being funded through money provided by the Community Development Block Grant Agency; however, since the project was advertised, the lowest bid came in at $410 thousand dollars, according to the city’s Engineer Michael Fry. As a result, the city started working with LAL Construction, Company based out of Fall river to reduce the list of 175 areas around the city that need sidewalk repair in low-income and primarily residential areas.
The work will be completed in accordance with the rules and regulations set up by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and will include construction of Americans With Disability Act-compliant curb ramps. Fry estimates that the number can be cut back to about three-quarters of that list, with the work still slated to begin sometime in April, weather permitting.
