FRCMedia is publishing a series of stories about the candidates running in the September 6th State Primary. Today’s entry features Kate Campanale, Republican candidate for lieutenant governor.
You can view our complete interview with Kate Campanale on our Election 2022 Republican Primary Election page.
Former State Representative Kate Campanale had no intention of running for Lt. Governor until she saw the candidates running for the office after Governor Charlie Baker and Lt. Governor Karyn Polito announced they would not seek a third term.
The Spencer Republican decided to not only throw her hat into the ring but team up with gubernatorial candidate Chris Doughty. Campanale says the style of Geoff Diehl and Lean Cole Allen, who have received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, does not fit well with what she feels Massachusetts Republicans should support.
Campanale says she and Doughty have big shoes to fill in replacing Baker and Polito and feels strongly about continuing their work in supporting local cities and towns.
As a state representative, part of Campanale’s district included a portion of Worcester. She feels representing a gateway city will help her understand the needs of the cities in the SouthCoast.
Campanale says despite the recent Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe vs. Wade, she would not push to make any changes to abortion access in Massachusetts. The same goes for gun legislation, where she says current gun laws are not the problem, but the approach to responding to the potential of violent crime.
Campanale is supportive of providing local school districts and public colleges and universities with more money to educate the state’s children, as long as those dollars are combined with accountability.
Campanale says she is pleased that the state legislature will pass many of the tax cuts proposed by Governor Baker earlier this year but she and Doughty will look at other ways to save residents money. One is by examining the state’s energy policy.
