Affordable housing availability remains a concern in Fall River and across the country. A workshop was held last night on the process of building accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to expand the housing stock.
Southcoast Places for People and United Interfaith Action of Southeastern Massachusetts (UIA) co-sponsored the event.
The legislature passed a law last year allowing ADUs to be built without any special permits.
UIA organizer Tracy Albernaz says the advantage of building adus is the flexibility they offer in creating affordable housing.
The city’s director of inspectional services, Glenn Hathaway, describes the requirements of constructing ADUs in Fall River.
