One year after the start of the latest conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the Fall River Ukranian community remains united against aggression and in support of long-term Ukrainian independence.

Father Mychyalo Dosyak, the pastor of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in the city’s south end, is one of many local Ukranians with families facing the war overseas. His Family members fled Ukraine to Poland when the conflict resumed last year and have since returned. He remains in contact with them and says the people in Ukraine have become desensitized to the war.

Reverend Monsignor Roman Golemba says the local community remains extremely supportive in providing financial and humanitarian support for those in need overseas.

Father Dosyak says the Ukrainian people have been living independently for over 30 years and the outcome of the war may put this in jeopardy. He feels Russia should face the same fate as Nazi Germany did after World War Two…and the resolve of Russian President Vladimir Putin should not be taken for granted.
