October through March is generally considered the period when the onset of seasonal respiratory illnesses, such as the flu, COVID, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), is most prevalent. Local doctors’ offices and health centers are preparing to treat this year’s outbreak.
HealthFirst Family Care Center has already begun treating cases of COVID and the seasonal flu. Physician Assistant Molly O’Brien says that while we should all be aware of how to get infected, the very young and the very old are particularly susceptible.
People have been receiving mixed signals from federal health leaders about the efficacy of vaccines for the flu and COVID. Ms. O’Brien says her opinion remains that the vaccines are safe.
Whether one becomes infected or not, following common-sense hygiene practices limits exposure to the viruses.
