This morning, 4th district congressman Jake Auchincloss held a press conference outside the Fall River Social Security office on North Main Street, warning residents of the Trump administration’s three-prong attack to make drastic changes to social security, including potentially closing the Fall River location.
Fall River’s social security office has served the region for over 50 years. Mayor Paul Coogan says the president and his budget cutters have no idea the impact closing the Fall River office will have on the community.
Labor leaders and representatives of community-based organizations joined local elected officials at the rally. Rich Couture of the American Federation of Government Employees says the administration continues to make false claims on the impact cuts will have on social security benefits.
