Library Hosts Online Pastel Painting Workshop with Gregory Maichack

The Fall River Public Library welcomes art lovers for a new ZOOM Pastel Painting Workshop with award-winning pastel artist Gregory John Maichack, to be held Thursday, March 10, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. The subject will be jellyfish.

This fun, highly researched two-hour workshop guides everyone step by step in producing their own 12” x 18” jellyfish paintings, a perfect fit for the national library program theme of 2022, “Oceans of Possibilities.” Mr. Maichack will guide participants, from beginners to advanced artists, in expressive pastel strokes, blending, and creating special effects. He will demonstrate techniques for underwater effects such as transparency, glow, and bioluminescence. Participants will receive jellyfish images to work from, and Mr. Maichack will be available to help throughout the program. The Zoom format allows him to demonstrate specific techniques close-up, making it easy to follow along at home.

Online registration opens March 1st. After registering, participants can come to the library to pick up a packet of professional-grade pastels, pastel pencils, pastel paper, and sample images. Everyone who takes part can expect guidance, tips, and techniques from Mr. Maichack, whose popular painting workshops have been presented in more than 800 libraries.

Space is limited, so please register early to ensure your place in the workshop. You can register at tinyurl.com/FRPastel starting Tuesday, March 1st at 9 am. Registered participants can pick up their art supplies at the library before the event.

This project is supported in part by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council, a local agency that is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
