A letter authored by Mayor Sam Sutter and Fall River Police Chief Daniel Racine was mailed to the homes of every legally licensed gun owner who resides in Fall River on December 30th.

The purpose: to urge them to keep their firearms safely locked up in their homes and assist law enforcement by reporting any gun sales, transfers, or thefts to the proper authorities.

“A key to reducing gun violence is further limiting criminals’ access to guns. Many of the guns used to commit crimes are stolen from the homes of legal gun owners, so by urging lawful gun owners secure their firearms we can keep more stolen guns off the streets,” Mayor Sutter says. “Having guns properly secured can also help avoid tragic, preventable accidents involving children at home with their family members’ guns.”

Chief Daniel Racine says,”By keeping guns properly locked up at home and helping keep track of lost and stolen guns, gun owners can help us at the FRPD in reducing gun crimes. A strong cooperative between the police and legal gun owners goes a long way for keeping our streets and neighborhoods safe.”
