A federal judge has allowed a request by former Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia to delay his reporting to prison on his fraud and extortion convictions until after the new year. His new reporting date will now be noon on January 10, 2022.

U.S. District Court Judge Douglas Woodlock released his decision today, changing his original reporting date of December 3.

The judge made his ruling based on Correia’s claim for the need to work at his wife’s restaurants during the holiday and the schedule set to hear motions on Correia’s appeal before the First Circuit Court of Appeals.

The judge also noted that Correia’s initial reporting date on December 3 may have had an impact on the upcoming trial of co-defendant Genoveva Andrade which is set to begin on December 6.
