In a unanimous vote today, the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education approved the appointment of Laura L. Douglas, Ph.D, as the new president of Bristol Community College. Dr. Douglas will serve as the fourth president in the institution’s 51 year history.
In August, after seventeen years of service, President John J. Sbrega will retire. He succeeded Eileen Farley (1979-2000) and Jack Hudnall (1965-1979), the college’s founding president.
The Commissioner of Higher Education Carlos E. Santiago stated: “I welcome Dr. Douglas to Massachusetts and look forward to working with her when she assumes the Presidency at Bristol Community College. Her experience working in higher education in Iowa and North Carolina will be an asset to our system, allowing her to bring new perspectives and fresh ideas to the challenges we face here in the Commonwealth.”
Last month at a special open meeting of the board of trustees at BCC, all members voted “yes” to the appointment of Dr. Douglas who will begin her term at the start of the next fiscal year on July 1st.
