Polls opened in the preliminary election this morning at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. tonight.

Election Board Chairwoman Liz Camara says she’s expecting a 30% voter turnout, which is 3% higher than in the recall election held in December of 2014.

“I think more people will vote this time around because the recall election generated a lot of interest and this preliminary is so close to the one last winter that I feel there is more general interest in who gets elected this time around,” she tells frcconnect.org.

Five people are running for Mayor, and 29 candidates are vying for the two open city council seats.

Despite the number of people on the ballot, electronic voting means results will be calculated in less than two hours.

“While the wardens and clerks are filling out their reports when the precincts close, police officers will be bringing us the memory ballot numbers, so it will not take long to get the results.”

There are 27 precincts and two (2) sub precincts in the city.

Stay tuned for election return results on frcconnect.org and frc Media later tonight.
