Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn reported today that the initial investigation into last Sunday’s tragic fire at the Gabriel House Assisted Living center in Fall River, which claimed the lives of ten residents, is being treated as accidental.

The district attorney’s office is leading the investigation into the fire in cooperation with State Police, the Fall River Fire Department, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. State Fire Marshal Jon Davine says the focus of the investigation to date has been centered on one room on the second floor of the building.

Marshal Davine says at this point he could not pinpoint the source of the fire from either the medical oxygen supply or the smoking materials. He did reiterate that those two elements are often the cause of fires.

Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon took the time to praise the FRFD for their work in ensuring more lives were not lost.

DA Quinn says the complete investigation into the cause of the fire and the circumstances that resulted in the loss of life will take weeks to complete.
