It appears Massachusetts residents can breathe a sigh of relief as far as the weather is concerned, at least today, October 2nd. According to the National weather service, Hurricane Joaquin is currently still battering the Bahamas, but is slowly weakening and is not expected to directly hit the United States.
Currently, the Category 4 hurricane is expected to slow down in intensity by tomorrow, Saturday October 3rd.
Earlier this week there were reports that the storm was going to slam the United States and was on a direct path to hit Massachusetts, including the Southeastern region, but national and local weather forecasters are now saying that will most likely not happen.
Rick Knabb, director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami was quoted by the Associated Press as saying, “The models have become much more in agreement, and we are pretty confident the hurricane is going to pass well offshore of the east coast of the U.S.
Some rain and strong winds with possible flooding in trouble spots in our local Fall River area are still expected to occur over the weekend however.
