The Fall River Public Library has a full slate of holiday events this month.

Here’s what the library has on the schedule for the month of December 2022. We’re offering some special holiday events in addition to our regular weekly programs for all ages!

Monday Movies: Matinee movies are offered every Monday at 1 pm in the Meeting Room with our new surround sound system. On Monday, December 5, we’ll show the action movie Bullet Train with Brad Pitt; on December 12, the movie is Three Thousand Years of Longing with Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba, and on December 19, we’ll have the mystery thriller Don’t Worry Darling with Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. On Monday, December 26, the library is closed for the holiday.

Children’s Storytimes and Games: Preschool storytime meets every Tuesday at 11 am; Play & Learn meets on Wednesdays at 10 am. BEAM interactive games are held on Thursday afternoons from 4-5 pm.

Kids’ Take-Home Crafts: Each week, a different holiday craft will be available in the Children’s Room. Pick them up while supplies last. Take-home crafts are sponsored by Debby and Richard Danner.

Clubs and Groups: Our Chess Club meets at 1 pm on Saturdays; the Knitting Club meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month (December 6 and December 20) at 2 pm; and the teen Magic: the Gathering group meets every Wednesday at 5 pm.

Our Books and Tea Club meets on the third Wednesday of the month (December 21) at 2 pm. There is no required reading; members can share whatever books they have enjoyed recently. Our Fantasy & Sci-Fi Book Club meets on the third Thursday of the month (December 15) at 6 pm. This month’s Fantasy & Sci-Fi book selection is A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske. Members are also invited to bring a book wrapped in plain paper with a short description written on the outside for a “blind date with a book” exchange. Covid Vaccine Clinics will be offered on select Wednesdays from 3-7 pm and on Saturdays from 1-4 pm. $75 gift card incentives are available for Massachusetts residents getting a vaccination or booster. Special Events:

Christmas at the Lafayette-Durfee House, Saturday, December 3 at 11 am. Listen to stories told by the library’s head of Children’s Services, David Mello, and enjoy a Christmas craft, raffle, and historic house tour. Meets at the Lafayette-Durfee House, 94 Cherry Street.

Holiday Fraud Prevention, Monday, December 5 at 6 pm. Learn tips to keep your holidays safe from identity theft, credit card skimming, and other scams.

Teen Game Night, Tuesday, December 6 at 6 pm. Teens 12-18 are invited to join us. Handheld consoles are available, or bring your own!

Craft Club, Wednesday, December 7 at 6 pm. This month’s craft: make a beaded Christmas ornament! This event is full, but call the circulation desk for updates or to be added to the waiting list: 508-324-2700, ext. 2.

A Christmas Carol, Saturday, December 10 at 2 pm. Enjoy this free live performance of the classic Charles Dickens story, presented by the Delvena Theatre Company. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Fall River Public Library with support from the Fall River Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Grinch Craft for kids, Thursday, December 15 at 4 pm. Make a cute Grinch character using a spoon!

Meet the Grinch, Saturday, December 17 at 11 am. Everyone’s favorite Christmas grump pays a visit to the library to meet and greet his fans! Join us from 11 am – 12 noon.

Santa Storytime, Tuesday, December 20 at 11 am. Our preschool storytime group welcomes a special guest—Santa Claus! Bring your wishlist for this special holiday storytime.

Holiday schedule: The library is closed from Saturday, December 24 through Monday, December 26 and will re-open on Tuesday, December 27. We will be closed on Saturday, December 31 for New Year’s and will re-open on Tuesday, January 2, 2023.
