Heritage State Park has a full slate of events scheduled for the Month of August.

SUNDAYS AUGUST 1 & 8

PLEIN AIR FOR KIDS! 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Join us on either of two Sundays in August to explore the art of painting outdoors. This is an event for the whole family with a special focus on children. Meet local artists from the Greater Fall River Art Association as they instruct on painting and drawing outdoors. Try your hand at capturing the beauty of the park. Please meet at the picnic area.

The programs are free, and all materials will be provided. Children must be accompanied by adults for this program. For more information, please call (508) 675-5759 x 0.

SATURDAY AUGUST 7

ANNUAL ST. ANNE’S CREDIT UNION & WSAR’S SUMMER CONCERT: 4:30 pm-6:30 pm in the Meadow.

Starring Living on a Bad Name, a Bon Jovi Tribute Band (rumored to be the only tribute band ever chosen to fill in for the real Bon Jovi in concert). Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Weather permitting. Fun for all ages. Welcome and Giveaways at 4:30pm; Concert from 5:00pm—6:30pm. Co-sponsored by St. Anne’s Credit Union, WSAR and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18

MASS DOT DAVOL STREET CORRIDOR PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE INFORMATION SESSIONS, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm & 4:00pm to 7:00 pm.

This is an open house to invite the public to view Mass DOT’s improvement plans for the Route 79/Davol Street corridor. Come see plan drawings, and hear a presentation on planned improvements from the project designers. Session 1: 9:00 am to 12 noon; Session 2: 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. SATURDAY, AUGUST 21

WESTON WIND QUINTET CONCERT, 6:00 pm-7:00 pm

This free outdoor concert features leading wind players from the Weston Wind Quintet, performing music from “Porgy and Bess” and “Carmen,” plus a beautiful serenade for winds by Dvorak. SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK, 7:30 pm, the Meadow
“Some cupid kills with arrows, some with traps.”

The Brown Box Theatre Project presents William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Kyler Taustin. The free performance is presented outdoors in the meadow. Lawn seating, blankets, and lawn chairs welcome. Please note: this performance will be canceled for inclement weather. For further information email contact@brownboxtheatre.org. NATURE JOURNAL: A SCAVENGER HUNT, 1:00 pm -3:00 pm. Please meet at the picnic area.

Explore nature in the city with a journaling scavenger hunt. It’s an adventure for the whole family! Choose to photograph (using your cellphone) or draw in a paper journal to capture a record of the wild things that live at Fall River Heritage State Park.

This program is free, and all materials, except for cellphones, will be provided. Presented by the Greater Fall River Art Association. Children must be accompanied by adults.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 26

AN ELVIS TRIBUTE LIVE IN CONCERT 6:00 pm– 8:00 pm in the meadow.

Join DCR and the Fall River Public Library for this amazing tribute concert to the King of Rock N’ Roll, Elvis Presley! Award-winning entertainer Robert Black, known as one of the finest and most sought after tribute performers brings his unique vocal talent and dynamic charisma to capture a musical legend!
