For the most part, voters in Fall River followed the lead of other communities in electing candidates and weighing in on the ballot questions at yesterday’s state election, supporting all Democrats on the ballot, joining the trend in three of the four statewide referendums and, in a special city election, voting for Fall River to become members of the MBTA.
It was just before 1 am today that the unofficial election results in Fall River were released to the public. Election Commission chair Ryan Lyons says the delay was due to poll workers handling a large number of ballots cast in the two elections.
Mr. Lyons says other than the counting delays, the rest of the day was smooth, with just over 30% of city voters casting ballots.

Fall River’s membership in the MBTA was approved by a 78% to 22% margin. Mayor Paul Coogan called the vote “a no-brainer”
The first ride on the train to Boston will take place late next year.
