Since voters in 2024 elected to remove the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test as a requirement for high school graduation, state education officials have been seeking a new standard that all students must meet to graduate.
Governor Maura Healey announced this morning that an opening framework for such a standard has been set and will need legislative approval. Governor Healey says the framework will reimagine high school education.
The 100-page recommendation, prepared by the K-12 Statewide Graduation Council, demonstrates the collaboration among many stakeholders to secure the Commonwealth’s position as an educational leader.
The council will continue to work on details of the framework over the next six months, with a final report due in June. It is hoped that once the new framework is in place, the tenth-grade MCAS test will be discontinued.
