Genoveva Andrade, former chief of staff to former Fall River Mayor jasiel Correia will be on trial beginning Monday on government corruption charges.
Andrade is facing extortion and bribery charges for her alleged role in Correia’s scheme to extort money from one of four marijuana vendors. Correia was found guilty of fraud and extortion charges earlier this year. Attorney Steven Sabra says on the heels of Correia’s conviction attention will be focused on the make-up of Andrade’s jury.
Attorney Sabra says the case against Andrade will not be influenced by Correia’s convictions
In terms of Correia, he was given a reprieve last week from reporting to federal prison to serve his six-year prison sentence until January 10. Correia has appealed his convictions but there is some unfinished business remaining before District Court Judge Douglas Woodlock.
