Students at the James Tansey Elementary School on Ray Street in the city were safely transported to the auditorium at B.M.C. Durfee High School around 9:30 this morning. School Superintendent Matt Malone ordered the evacuation after a gas leak was detected. Even though Durfee High on Elsbree Street is closed due to a water main break that occurred in the early morning hours, about 200 Tansey students were brought to that evacuation site as a precaution. Reportedly, a Twitter feed out of Tansey has given the green light for parents to pick up their child(ren) at Durfee by 2:52 p.m. today.
