A unique mural, created by the city’s children’s librarian, will be unveiled next weekend at the Fall River Public Library.
From the Fall River Public Library
On Saturday, March 4 at 11:00 a.m., the Fall River Public Library will unveil a unique sculpture series that will be a permanent installment in the library’s collection. From the Deep, an eight-piece sculptural mural created by Fall River artist and supervisor of the library’s Children’s Services Department, David Mello, will be revealed to the public for the first time in a brief ceremony. Members of the public are invited to attend an artist’s reception following the unveiling. Light refreshments will be served.
From the Deep depicts an array of familiar sea creatures commonly found in the ocean’s depths. Unlike ordinary ocean dwellers, however, these inhabitants of the deep have the added surprise of human faces concealed within them. The artist will be on hand to greet the public as well as answer any questions about his work. A demonstration of how the pieces were made will also be ongoing until 1:00 p.m. in the library’s Fell Room.
The permanent installment was made possible in part by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
