Low income residents in Fall River can now enjoy a well balanced diet all year long, thanks to a $10 thousand dollar grant awarded to the city by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. The money will be used by area food pantries to purchase frozen vegetables, and the freezers to stock them at their respective locations.
The first recipient of a freezer was Gates of Hope Pantry, which mostly serves the Flint Neighborhood. This food pantry was chosen because it serves a greater number of people than its counterparts.
Operator Faith Scallion says, “This donation from Harvard Pilgrim is wonderful.”
The grant was awarded last fall. With the money, city and non-profit officials will ensure that more freezers will be purchased for local food pantries that will enable them to supply residents with vegetables all year round.
