Residents of the Maplewood and Sandy Beach neighborhoods have been selected as the recipients of free tree plantings this fall. As part of the Massachusetts Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs’ pilot program called Greening the Gateway Cities, foresters will visit homes and/or businesses and recommend suitable trees for the targeted neighborhoods. The purpose is to plant trees up to six feet tall in order to increase canopy cover, and reduce home energy use for heating and cooling purposes.
Planting will occur beginning this September through November. Sign ups will be accepted on a rolling basis. For more information call (617) 997-1795.
