The Fall River Council on Aging has launched a pilot program that gives eligible seniors free rides to Market Basket, Stop & Shop, Shaw’s, and Walmart to shop for groceries.

Offered in conjunction with the mayor’s office and the local veterans’ office, the program is open to seniors who don’t live in apartment buildings served by the Fall River Housing Authority grocery transportation. Rides are available on Mondays to residents of the South end of Fall River and on Fridays to those who live in the North End.

Rides are provided on a first come, first served basis to groups of up to eight adults. Shoppers have one and a half hours to purchase groceries and are limited to three bags per ride. Reservations are required and should be made a week in advance.

For more information, or to book a ride, call the Council on Aging at 508-324-2401.
