The Fall River Fire Department is promoting fire safety tips this week in honor of National Fire Prevention Month.
The first tip is that all residents who are approved for any Citizens for Citizens program, such as fuel assistance, are eligible to receive free smoke alarms from the city’s fire department, according to Fire Inspector Jeff Medieors.
“The smoke alarms are awarded to eligible residents through grant monies the department receives,” he says. “The cost from smoke alarms are as little as $20 dollars which is well worth it since our lives are priceless.”
The most common and cost effective items include carbon monoxide detectors, smoke alarms, sprinkler systems, and of course batteries to keep these devices running.
Inspector Medeiros adds, thatunder state regulations smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are required before a house or rental is bought and sold.
“Over the last nine years we have installed approximately 13,000 smoke detectors in properties that changed hands throughout the city, which is a huge number,” he says.
Tomorrow, October 10th the Flint Fire Station is open for families to tour the facility, and check out the fire trucks and other equipment first hand between noon and 3:00 p.m.
