The vacant Coughlin School in Fall River suffered massive fire damage recently, but the memories of having worked at the once thriving educational institution remains in the mind of one former principal.
While attending an event in the city this week, Ms. Diane Dugal told frcconnect.org that she had worked at the school for 35 years before retiring; first as an elementary school teacher than as principal during her last five years.
When asked how she felt about the demise of the building following the five-alarm blaze on Saturday, Ms. Dugal got tears in her eyes.
“My memories of that building have not gone up in smoke,” she says, “but a part of my heart was destroyed.”
Ms. Dugal fondly remembered that her colleagues were a close knit group back in the day.
“Like a family,” she added, specifically asking that one of the maintenance workers, Mr. Michael Feijo be recognized for his years of dedicated service.
“Mr. Feijo kept the building spotless,” she says, “so much so that you could eat off the floor.”
Ms. Dugal made her comments while attending the Flint Neighborhood Association Meeting Wednesday night at the Mary Fonseca School.
