A quickly spreading fire at a tenement located at 270-280 Fifth Street at the corner of Morgan Street in Fall River Tuesday evening, left some 30 residents homeless, but no one injured. That from Rick Aguiar, the city’s Emergency Management Director. He says, five families escaped unharmed, and were relocated to area hotels. Half of the displaced people were children. While there were no reports of injuries, some family pets were missing.
According to news reports, several residents claimed they did not hear smoke alarms, but smelled smoke after the blaze began around 6:00 p.m.
Two ladder trucks were deployed to fight the fire. The cause has yet to be determined.
