The former Haddad Electronic Supply company building at 138 Durfee street in Fall River is the new location for First Step Inn, the agency that assists low income residents in the city. The official announcement concerning the move came during a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday. First Inn offers programs including health checks, sobriety counseling, and GED classes to needy residents in the area, and also offers meals, showers, laundry facilities, and beds to the homeless.
The organization will still offer the 20 beds that it fills with people in the organization’s transition program. It will also now have room for 30 more people during the coldest part of the year.
President of BayCoast Bank Nick Crist led the effort to raise $4 million to find and rehabilitate a building to fit the needs of First Step. Crist was among the 70 people who toured the facility Tuesday after the ribbon cutting ceremony.
