The Fall River Fire Department’s Special Services Unit Tuesday night installed four new volunteer members and promoted two others, among them long-time Deputy Chief Richard Aguiar who has earned the rank of chief.
The Special Services Unit provides emergency management support for firefighters and police officers on the scene of extended incidents such as fires.
Fire Department Chief Roger St. Martin said Chief Aguiar has been the linchpin of the city’s emergency management efforts for over 50 years.
Robert J. Correia was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and the department welcomed four new volunteer privates, who had to undergo extensive training to learn the operation and equipment within the special services department. Private Heidi Lynn Trial spoke on behalf of the four recruits and said they are honored to be part of a dedicated team supporting public safety officials and the community at large.
Also installed as privates were Joseph Couto, Dennis A. Flynn and Michael D. Almeida.
