The City of Fall River was approved for a federal loan that will be used to purchase six (6) new fire trucks, and update aging fire department equipment. Community Development Agency Director Michael Dion applied for the section 108 loan through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development last spring as requested. The loan will be under written and paid back by the CDA on an annual basis.
With the money, the city will purchase about $5 million dollars worth of equipment over a three-year period. The fire stations eligible to receive the funding include: Globe, Candeias, Flint, and Central stations, all of which are located in low-income neighborhoods.
