A 32-year-old Fall River man indicted in May for the February 2024 shooting homicide of Joshua Medieros was apprehended yesterday afternoon in De Kalb County, Georgia.

Kevin Barton, 32, was indicted by a Bristol County Grand Jury on May 17 in connection to the February 9th shooting of Mr. Medeiros night near the intersection of Nashua and Blackstone streets. The indictment was sealed at the time due to the fact that the defendant was not in custody. The indictments charge the defendant with murder, carrying an illegal firearm, carrying a loaded illegal firearm, larceny and possession of a large capacity firearm.

Law enforcement officials have been actively seeking to locate and apprehend the defendant for the past six weeks.

The defendant was non-fatally shot by law enforcement during his arrest in Georgia yesterday. He is currently in stable condition at a Georgia Hospital.

At some point in the coming days, he will be charged in Georgia as a fugitive from justice. It is unclear at this time when he will be returned to Massachusetts for arraignment on our indictment in Fall River Superior Court.
