Family and friends of a 19 year old Fall River resident continue to mourn his death. According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office, Rafael Cordeiro was riding an unregistered dirt bike early Wednesday morning (August 3rd) without headlamps when he was struck by a police cruiser responding to an emergency.
Reports say Cordeiro failed to stop for an intersection in the south end of the city when his dirt bike collided with a cruiser. A companion he was with fled the area. Cordeiro was treated at the scene by emergency personnel, then transported to St. Anne’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries he sustained in the crash.
The names of the police officers involved are not being released pending a further investigation. Witnesses say the cruiser had slowed down at the intersection and that Cordeiro failed to stop.
Friends and family of the victim gathered last night to remember the young man who they say was full of life and enjoyed riding dirt bikes and motorcycles.
