Fall River has won a 2019 Golden Shoe Award from Walk Boston, a statewide network that works to encourage walking in Massachusetts, for accomplishing “terrific wins for walking.”
An announcement from Walk Boston says that the award will be presented at a ceremony in Boston next month to local groups including “Friends of the Quequechan River Rail Trail, Bike Fall River/Alliance to Save the Trail, Senior Champions, and Fall River City staff” and to individual achievers, still to be announced.
In a letter addressed to “Fall River friends of walking and walkability,” WalkBoston said: “You have worked together and individually to create wonderful new opportunities for walking in Fall River.”
“From the beautiful and well-used Quequechan River Rail Trail, to the safety improvements near schools and senior centers, to the adoption of Complete Streets into the City’s policy-making, you have made Fall River a leader on walking and walkability.”
