Fall River Voters Taking Advantage of Early In-Person Voting, Mail Ballots

One week before election day, hundreds of Fall River residents have already voted in this year’s state election.

Election Commission Chair Ryan Lyons says the city received applications for over 12,000 mail ballots. As of Monday, approximately half have been returned. Those who have yet to return their mail ballots must do so within the next week.

Early in-person voting has also been a popular option for voters this year. Last week over 1,400 voters cast ballots in person. The final day of early voting, held in the atrium of Government Center, is this Friday at 4:00 pm.

Mr. Lyons says all 27 polling precincts will be open on election day, November 5, from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm. For voters who have not voted in an election yet this year, several polling locations have changed from a year ago.

Fall River has nearly 63,000 residents registered to vote. Mr. Lyons says it has become more convenient to register.

Mr. Lyons says presidential election years have always yielded higher turnouts. He predicts that over 60 percent of city voters will cast ballots between now and election day.

While that is encouraging, Mr. Lyons has concerns that voter interest will not be as robust when the presidency is not on the ballot.
