Saying it was time to turn over a new leaf, President of the Fall River Street Tree Planting Program Mary Ann Wordell, has stepped down from that position.

Wordell served as the group’s volunteer president for 20 years and oversaw the planting of two thousand maple, spruce, and other tree varieties throughout Fall River since the program’s inception.

Long time group member Torrey Adams has moved up to the president’s position, although Wordell says, she will still be involved with the program.

Back in 2014, the city’s tree farm on Bay Street was dedicated as the Mary Ann Wordell Tree Farm in honor of her years of bringing a greener canopy to the city, along with maintaining a healthy city environment as a result of the plantings.
