Fall River School Committee Member Gabriel Andrade tells FRC Media news, he has decided not to run for re-election.
Via a phone interview today Andrade told FRC Media News he never expected the school committee position to be long term.
“At the time I initially took office in 2013, I had more free time to commit to the responsibilities,” he said. “Now, I have two grandchildren to care for, and that’s the main reason I’m not running again.
Andrade went on to say that he respects School Superintendent Matt Malone and what he is doing for the school system, adding that he wanted to make the announcement not to run again for office in order to give other potential candidates time to prepare to take his place.
Residents who want to run for office can announce anytime, but April 1st is the first day they can take out nominations papers to make their announcements official. Those papers, according to the city’s Board of Election Chairwoman Liz Camara, must be returned by July 25th. If a preliminary election is held, it will be on September 12th. The final election will be held November 7th.
FRC Media News will have more political updates as they become available.
