As the Fall River City Council reviews the Fiscal year 2018 budget submitted by Mayor Jasiel Correia, the mayor himself plans to discuss details of the financial plan tomorrow, May 23rd at an afternoon news conference.
The mayor will ‘formally release’ and discuss strategic priorities included in the budget proposal, which he previously stated is a Zero Based Budgeting concept.
The proposed budget stands at $225.8 million dollars. Although not released publicly, Correia has announced he has allocated more than $141 million dollars to the city’s school system, saying the amount represents 101 percent of required net school spending. The plan will also be the first to take into account the full privatization of the city’s waste disposal services.
City councilors are expected to approve a budget by the end of the month, since the new fiscal year begins July 1st.
