The majority of voters during yesterday’s special election voted to recall Fall River Mayor Jasiel F. Correia II from office; however, when asked which of the five (5) candidates residents wanted for the top post, Correia won over second place runner up, School Committeeman Paul Coogan.Correia was allowed to add his name as a candidate to the recall ballot under the rules of the newly revised City Charter. During his acceptance speech last night, the mayor thanked his supporters for his win over Coogan by approximately 300 votes.
Coogan said he will not legally challenge the vote tally, but said during his concession speech that he does plan to seek election in the regular mayoral election to be held this fall.
