Fall River Public Library to Open by Appointment

Starting Monday, July 13, the Fall River Public Library will open to the public for limited access by appointment only. Patrons can schedule a time to visit either the Main Library, 104 North Main Street, or the South Branch Library, 58 Arch Street. The Board of Health has limited the number of people in the building at a time, so we are offering appointments for half-hour visits to browse new books, check out materials, and use computers. Faxing, printing, and copying will also be available. Per city and state regulations, face coverings must be worn to enter the library.

When you return to the library, you will notice some changes. Due to social distancing regulations, there will be fewer computers, spaced farther apart, and less seating. Toys and puzzles will no longer be available. People are encouraged to “grab and go” rather than sitting and reading in the library. Disposable keyboard and mouse covers will be available for computer users, and hand sanitizer will be offered to everyone. Only the large public areas (adult circulation, reference room, and children’s room) will be open to the public. The stacks, meeting rooms, and study rooms are closed to the public. Library staff will be happy to help people with items from the stacks.

At the Main Library, only the Elm Street entrance (handicapped accessible) will be available. At the South Branch, use the front door from the parking lot. (Stairs are required, but anyone with a disability can call to make special arrangements.)

The library is taking every precaution to keep library users of all ages safe and prevent spread of coronavirus. However, we understand that some people may prefer not to visit in person, and so we are still offering curbside take-out and Book Bundles as services for those who prefer contactless pickup. As always, we offer many free online resources—eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, comics, and newspapers—which can be accessed from our web site, fallriverlibrary.org.

Appointments (30 minutes, 1 person each) can be made between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment for a library visit, call the Main Library at 508-324-2700, or the South Branch, 508-324-2708.
