Jurors reporting for service this week at Fall River’s Justice Center discovered they would no longer be offered a day-long rate of $7 at the city’s parking garage on Pearl Street.
Instead, jurors were charged the full rate of $3 an hour, causing some to incur costs of up to $27 for a single day of service.
Payments were made via a newly-installed kiosk inside the garage, and jurors were told that starting next month the facility will no longer employ an attendant, raising security concerns in the minds of some.
The city of Fall River took over ownership of the Pearl Street garage and a second garage on Third Street last January.
