It’s official. All potential candidates for the office of mayor, city council, and school committee in Fall River have filed their certified nomination papers by yesterday’s deadline. According to Board of Elections Chair Liz Camara, School Committee Member Mark Costa brought his papers in just before the 5:00 p.m. deadline, the only candidate she had been waiting for. Costa’s filing means that – unless someone drops out of the race – there will be a school committee and mayoral preliminary election on Tuesday, September 12th. There will be no preliminary for city council, though, since there were not enough candidates to require one.
The five mayoral candidates who filed are Mayor Jasiel Correia II, City Council Vice President Linda Perreira; City Councilor Richard Cabeceiras; and residents Ron Cabral, and Jordan James Silvia. Both Cabral and Silvia are also running for a city council seat.
The last day to file, withdraw, or object to nomination papers is August 10th.
